The Berwyn Public Art Initiative sponsors the first Día de los Muertos celebration in Berwyn’s Historic Depot District to honor the values and traditions of Berwyn’s vibrant Latinx community through the arts.

In the weeks leading up to Nov 1, artists will offer free workshops on making sugar skulls & Mexican garland art, and other creative events.

Students, parents, and residents will celebrate together with their artistic creations in the Día de los Muertos art walk and procession. The procession will be led by local Mexica Danzantes Calpulli Ocelotl-Cihuacoatl and feature decorated mini-floats. At 6:30 pm we will gather outside of The James Joyce, 7138 Windsor Avenue, where the Procession will start at 7:00 pm and continue west along Windsor Avenue to Grove Street. Join the procession in your best Dia de los Muertos attire!

No Halloween costumes please. The origins of Dia de los Muertos and how it is celebrated are very different from Halloween.

Students from District 98, 100, and 201 schools will exhibit artwork and provide entertainment by student mariachi bands and folkloric dancers.

Artist-curated special Día de los Muertos-themed exhibitions and ofrendas will be displayed in Depot District businesses, who will also offer food and drink specials to audiences until closing. Enjoy live music and free face-painting.

A big Thank You to our 2019 Sponsors
