Describe your bug and its beauty
Our bug paint job design plays with the contrast between warm and cool colors. We used a lot of dots to embellish and emphasize shapes within the wing detail and the curves of the head. The wing details are highlighted with a golden orange color to make them stand out. Eyes are kept the traditional red color with dry brushed gold detail.
How long do you think you took decorating your bug?

Tell us your Story
The cicadas emerging this year last visited us 17 years ago. What kind of change have you seen in your city, yourself, or someone you know over the last 17 years?
For me as an adult, (as my co-artist wasn’t born yet), 17 years ago I was a stranger in our Berwyn community. We had just really moved in and between work and grad school, I spent very little time here. I had no connection to this place and just saw myself as an outsider, too busy to do much of anything…Flash forward to now and I feel like I’m a part of a larger community. We have built a life for ourselves here, my co-artist, now 11, has driven our family into a larger purpose and encouraged our sense of finding belonging here. We have built gardens and a network of friends and family that all enrich our lives in ways I didn’t even imagine 17 years ago.
