Describe your bug and its beauty
The head of the cicada has the Berwyn Public Library Centennial logo since 2024 marks our 100th year. Underneath is the 2024 solar eclipse, a fleeting moment that was years in the making. The top 4 spaces in the wings show different views of cicadas, as well as one more spot on the left, which shows the cicadas in their shells. The small centerpieces of the wing show the Berwyn Library as well as a Berwyn bungalow, to give a feel of the community. Two wing pieces on the right show butterflies for the Monarch Waystation, which was added to the library in recent years. The monarchs seemed perfect for a transformation theme since they change so rapidly and make time seem so fleeting. I painted Dalias in a wing piece since they symbolize change. Four wing spaces have the four seasons painted on them to show transformation and the last two with pictures have cardinals since they are the state bird and symbolize loved ones from the past visiting. This cicada is a very detailed representation of the library.

Tell us your Story
The cicadas emerging this year last visited us 17 years ago. What kind of change have you seen in your city, yourself, or someone you know over the last 17 years?
17 years ago, I was 18 and working and going to school. Since then, I got married, became a library worker, and had three children, and lost someone very important in my life. I have always loved art, so I continued to make art, drawing inspiration from my family and cats.
