Describe your bug and its beauty
Esperanza is a child of the cosmos, a being in tune with the ancient and everlasting cycles. Her wings are painted in vivid fluorescent colors and her exoskeleton, built of rustic planks nailed with copper nails, is a mixture of warm burgundy, deep magenta and metallic colors. Her eyes reflect and are themselves galaxies of stars. Her feet are adorned in stylish, whimsical footwear.
How long do you think you took decorating your bug?
On and off, maybe 18 hours or so
Tell us your Story
The cicadas emerging this year last visited us 17 years ago. What kind of change have you seen in your city, yourself, or someone you know over the last 17 years?
The greatest quest a person can partake in is the journey to truly know oneself better and be comfortable in your own self. Seventeen years ago, I was struggling to become someone I could be proud of. I was working in corporate America on behalf of some truly reprehensible industries, while trying to nurture my own personal artistic voice. I was exhausted and disappointed with myself. Today, I still struggle, but it is on behalf of my own positive, personal artistic enterprises.
