Describe your bug and its beauty

Egg is made using broken pysanka mosaic laid in rainbow like layers. Usually my Pysanka are gifted to family, friends and neighbors to represent the gift of life, hope and love.

When I write a pysanka i always have positive intentions and think of the joy in my life to make absolute certain the art reflects only positive. I made seven goose eggs for the cicada project.

Tell us your Story

The cicadas emerging this year last visited us 17 years ago. What kind of change have you seen in your city, yourself, or someone you know over the last 17 years?

17 years ago, both my husband and I were transitioning back into civilian life after serving in the Iraq war for 17 months (we were there at the same time but in different locations). I knew then that I did not want to go to another war, I’m also a Persian Gulf veteran, so I began my educational journey and in 2012 finished my masters.’s. I accepted a federal job in Chicago in 2018, that allows me to serve our country in a whole new way. In 2018 we bought the first home we’ve been able to actually LIVE in since I joined the army in 1989! We’ve been able to join our community knowing we are staying and knowing we are welcome!
