The cicadas emerging this year last visited us 17 years ago. What kind of change have you seen in your city, yourself, or someone you know over the last 17 years?
When the cicadas last came, none of the Irving fourth graders and only handful of the teachers and administrators were part of the Irving School community. Irving's motto is See it Be It Believe It Achieve it, which was coined by one of the 4th grade teachers — who was actually at Irving when the cicadas last emerged. Seventeen years ago, many seniors with grown children filled the homes around Irving — but over the years, many young families have moved in and begun creating their own community stories. Berwyn's public schools, like Irving School, are a crucial part of building community here and bringing people together. Ci-Ci's design reflects the Irving School colors, and the use of the mosaic pieces allowed all the 4th graders to actively participate in the creation of the piece.
